HALLOWEEN COSTUMES, QUICK & EASY
HALLOWEEN COSTUMES, QUICK & EASY
A Little Makeup, a Little Imagination, and a Whole Lot of Fun
Halloween has a funny way of sneaking up on us, doesn't it?
One minute we're enjoying pumpkin spice everything, and the next we're trying to remember where we put the costume accessories, whether we bought enough candy, and what on earth we're going to wear to the school Halloween party.
And if you're a busy mom? Well, you've probably already spent more time thinking about everyone else's costume than your own!
But here's a little secret.
You don't need an elaborate costume, a trip to the Halloween store, or a professional makeup artist to have some fun.
Sometimes everything you need is already sitting in your makeup bag.
And believe me, I've been proving that theory for years!
I recently found some old Halloween photographs of my sister and me.
In one, I'm dressed as a pumpkin, complete with a little pumpkin hat, while my sister is Raggedy Ann.
Adorable, right?
Then there's our high school Halloween photograph.
Oh, the 1980s!
My sister and I decided to dress as punk rockers, and we did our own makeup.
We're talking dramatic blue eye makeup, blue lipstick, colorful designs on our faces, and hair that could probably have survived a hurricane.
We thought we looked fabulous.
And honestly? I still think we did!
That photograph resurfaces on somebody's Facebook page almost every Halloween, so apparently it's become a family tradition.
But here's what I love most about that memory.
We didn't need an expensive costume.
We had makeup, imagination, and each other.
And we had a wonderful time.
If you're short on time this Halloween, here are three simple ideas you can put together with products you probably already own.
1. THE GLAMOROUS CAT
This one is practically a Halloween classic.
Start with your everyday makeup, then reach for your black eyeliner.
Add a dramatic wing to your eyes, draw a tiny black nose, and finish with a few whiskers.
A little mascara and your favorite lipstick complete the look.
Wear black, add cat ears if you have them, and you're ready to go.
No complicated costume required.
2. THE LAST-MINUTE ROCK STAR
This one is especially close to my heart!
Grab your darkest eyeshadow, eyeliner, and a bold lip color.
Go dramatic with your eyes. Add a little shimmer if you're feeling adventurous.
Then tease your hair, throw on a denim or leather jacket, and add some fun jewelry.
Congratulations!
You've officially joined the rock band.
And if anyone asks for an autograph, just go with it.
3. THE AUTUMN FAIRY
Prefer something a little softer?
Try warm gold, copper, berry, or peach eyeshadow.
Add some shimmer to your eyes, a little glow to your cheeks, and a pretty lip color.
Pair your makeup with a flowy top or dress.
A floral headband or some autumn accessories can complete the look.
It's simple, pretty, and just a little magical.
THE SECRET IS USING WHAT YOU ALREADY HAVE
One of my favorite things about these looks is that you don't have to purchase a bunch of makeup you'll never use again.
That berry eyeshadow you love for fall?
It can become part of a dramatic Halloween look.
Your everyday eyeliner?
It's suddenly the star of your costume.
And that bold lipstick you don't always feel brave enough to wear?
Halloween is the perfect excuse to pull it out.
I love beauty products that can do more than one job, especially when they save us a little time and money.
And really, isn't that what Beauty Quips is all about?
A LITTLE SUNFLOWER MAGIC
This year, I'm taking my own advice.
Our preschool is celebrating with a pumpkin patch theme, and I've decided to dress as a sunflower.
Naturally, my makeup is going to be part of the fun.
I'm planning dramatic eye makeup using some of the beautiful fall colors I already own.
And if time allows, I might even paint a few little sunflowers on my face.
But if that doesn't happen?
I'm not going to worry about it.
The dramatic eyes are the priority, and the rest is just a bonus.
After all, Halloween is supposed to be fun, not another item on our never-ending to-do lists.
A LITTLE HALLOWEEN REMINDER
Whether you're dressing up for work, taking your kids trick-or-treating, handing out candy, or staying home with a cozy movie, I hope you enjoy a little Halloween magic this year.
Don't worry about having the perfect costume.
Don't stress if your eyeliner wings aren't exactly even.
And please don't feel like you have to spend a fortune to participate.
Some of the best costumes begin with a makeup brush, a little imagination, and a willingness to laugh at yourself.
Trust me.
I've got decades of Halloween photographs to prove it!
YOUR TURN!
What's the most memorable Halloween costume you've ever worn?
Was it homemade, last-minute, or something completely outrageous?
I'd love to hear about it!
And if you've got an old Halloween photograph that still makes you laugh, even better.
